5 to 6 Speed Conversion Question.
I've got an '04 GT 5 Speed and I would just like to know if I wanted to covert to a 6 speed would I need a whole new 6 speed trans.? Or could I pull the one I've got out and put the 6 speed internals in it? Is it even big enough to do so?
If I do need the 6 speed trans. is it longer so I would need a shorter drive shaft and all that?

I have been working on a swap to a 6 speed myself. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any way that you can put different internals into your 5 speed. You would need to buy a t56 transmission with the correct bellhousing to bolt up to your engine, a new clutch, and a new clutch fork (i think, still working on that one myself).
The drive shaft I am not sure about... my project was changing an automatic mustang into a manual with a t56... and when I started everyone told me that I would need to get a new driveshaft. So I did. However when I got the the point where I was installing the driveshaft, the old automatic driveshaft looked like it would have worked... weird. If I were you and you are going to do the swap, just purchase a nice new aluminum driveshaft anyway. They are lighter, look badass, fairly cheap, and then you won't have to worry if your old one will fit or not. Otherwise, you could just start the project and if the old driveshaft doesn't work, but a new one. There are also places that can cut your driveshaft to work, and then rebalance it.
Oh, and don't forget to find a cobra cross member to hold the transmission into your car. American muscle sells them, at least that is where I got mine. Just make sure it says that the cross member is for the t56.
