Default Uh oh Transmission!!

Hey Whats Up Guys, I have a 96 Mustang GT i am a second time owner and the car has 102210 on the clock exactly and I was wondering could I still service the transmission. It is still the bright red color and it looks clean, but the reason why I need to change it is because the person who had it before me has it overfilled two quarts, its an automatic. Thanks guys.

You can definitely drain and replace the fluid. Probably change the filter at the same time. I don't recommend flushing the transmission though as you run the risk of washing away some of the clutch plate material.

edit: Just chalk it up to me being a jerk. There is no clutch plate material and if you're are talking about an auto then you should know that he isn't going to have particulate issues since the fluids already been changed recently. Gone are the days of the OLD transmissions that would crap out because of maintenance.

OP, drain, change the filter & refill.

It's a slushbox, there is a filter...

However I have no idea what the caution regarding "washing away...clutch plate material" is all about, unless it is in reference to the use of some aggressive sort of flushing fluid...

autos do too have a filter. My 99 did I know for a fact.

Manuals do not.

I thought we where talking about T45's since the responder was talking about clutch material. Opps, I guess that make me a jerk.

I'm going to have to take a break off here for a few days. There's been just an over abundance of retardedness on here lately I jump to the offensive too fast and I look like the jerk/dumbass.

OP, your question is valid, but like I said just drain and refill and filter. Don't worry about flushing out the "whatever". In OLD transmissions the metal shaving/dirty oil would clog/gum up gears and passageways and "Flushing" the system would clean away the nasties and actually show the true 'ware' and it would start to slip.

Been there, done it--and the older you get the longer the list gets...

really dont need a flush, there is a drain plug on the torque converter. just drain the pan, replace filter, and drain the torque converter. should take about 14 quarts to refill.
