is there a sound differece between X and H pipes.

looking to make my 98 GT sound louder/ deeper. right now i just have Magnaflow mufflers. im wondering if there is any difference between X and H pipes. heres one by Pypes on AmericanMuscle for $109: http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-...road-9604.html

for that price cant really beat it

you have to have long tubes for that midpipe

but yes there is a difference x is raspy h is deeper

damn didnt see that...

H-pipe = Muscle car, lower exhaust note, power focused in the mid-range;
X-pipe = NASCAR, higher exhaust note, power focused in upper mid-range to redline;

For the OHC 4.6L engines the X-pipe will produce the most satisfying power curve, this is why they are so prevalent/dominent in the marketplace.

alright thanks man. are there any other cheap H pipes that work with stock headers?

A lot of people tend to like the x pipe with straight through mufflers and the h pipe with chambered exhaust I believe. But if you are going catted I don't think this theory makes a huge difference.

dStuck 10-19-2009 08:40 PM

i dont plan on running cats. i just want the deeper more muscle sound.

Then H pipe will be your friend.
