Default Mustang brakes need improvement

I am looking at upgrade options for the brakes on my 2001 GT. The best deal I have found is a Cobra conversion kit that runs around $500 - 600. Is that the best thing going right now?

Yeah I feel ya. I am looking to get new pads and rotors all around. Really want cross drilled up front. I hear 88rotors on ebay has a good product as far as rotors and they have lifetime warranty against cracks. They are like 160 shipped for front and back cross drilled. I plan to get those and some new pads from axxis ebc or hawk too. I love the idea of doing the cobra stuff but that's alot of money for just a front setup for me right now. And I would still have to do my rear.

I'd give some new hawk brake pads a try before you make the investment into the big ole cobra brakes upgrade. That is unless you plan on doing hardcore autoxing, then make the dive and buy the cobra/mach1/bullitt brake upgrade.

Hehehe, I love my cobra brakes! Hawk pads are an awesome addition, the mach1/cobra/bullitt upgrade is the best bang for buck out there. Unless you feel that you can find a good deal on CL.

I was going to send you a link to the buyfordracing.com site to get the 10th anniversary upgrade kit but they dont sell it anymore.. glad I got mine!

Drilled/slotted rotors are useless for a DD car. Stick with blank rotors. Get a nice pad like Hawk and you will notice a vast improvement. upgrade to SS lines and better fluid is a great addition as well.

There was an thread somewhat recently talking about which is better, slotted or drilled. It seemed slotted was the better of the two choices. But a Cobra brake kit is still very good.

You can still just buy the calipers (and stainless lines), and shop around for the rotors....that's what I just did. Well, I didn't install them yet.

Not installed yet, but can't beat $189 for the calipers, and 95 for the rotors (shipped)
