winterizing
what do u guys do to winterize you cars. i just bought a taurus sho that i'm going to be beating up on so the stang can take a rest. like do you guys change the oil or just leave the existing in until spring. things like that. any input is appreciated
I haven't heard much about this other than some people unplug their battery. I think I will just make sure all the fluids are good and start it up every once in a while to make sure it is still alive. I would like to also here what other people do for the winter.
I was just thinking of this today because its almost time for an oil change, but I dont know if I should change it now or wait til the start of the season (because oil degrades with time) but idk if its good to have old oil siting in your oil pan either...
edit: I have a winter car, stang will be under cover the whole winter.

Are you storing it inside or outside?
I had a '99 GT convertible that I stored outside under a car cover and now I store my '05 GT convertible inside no cover.
1. Fill the gas tank and add stabilizer. This prevents condensation from forming in the tank and keeps the gas from going bad.
2. Cover tail pipes with empty soup cans to keep the critters out.
3. Put a dryer sheet in the car to keep it smelling fresh. Put a moth ball block under the hood outside, or on the cement floor under the car inside to also keep chipmunks and squirrels from building a nest.
I've never unplugged the battery or put the car on blocks and I've been doing this for 7 years combined total. Starts right up in the spring.

I do basically as stated above. however I really don't ever start the car as you don't really want to start it unless you plan to drive it. Best to leave it unstarted til spring. I also use a battery maintainer to keep the cells in the battery nice and healthy as well. As far as oil, I usually wait till spring to change it. If you change it now it will most likely gain alot of moisture and such sitting in the pan. It's best to have a fresh oil fill when you finally start it come spring. I have also hear of people spraying a tad of wd-40 in the cylinders to help prevent cylinder wall rust.

so there is some mixed responses whether or not to change the oil now or later lol. unfortunately the only place to store my car is at the rents house and i will be sharing my mom's space for the winter. meaning snowstorm=outside under the cover. Then once the driveway is plowed its back in the garage. is it bad to let the old oil sit for awhile start it up for a sec then let it sit again? and if i unplug my battery will the car revert back to the stock tune?? i have a dyno tune on it now
