question
if I get gears, saay 4:10's, how will I get traction? haha I have the stock 3:27's and barely get traction. I have decent tires out back, but I can only imagine what kind of traction I will get with the 4:10's and Nitto drags.
4.10s don't really effect it that badly. I just got 4.10s and I was worried about getting traction and gas mileage. If you stomp on the throttle, yeah, the tires and going to spin, if you drive the car normally like an adult, you'll be fine. If you plan on adding a blower in the future, I'd say get 3.73s b/c you'll run out of gear. My car does about 70mph at 2500rpm if I remember correctly.
+1 I love my 4.10s and like everyone else is saying you just have to learn how to handle your car. My buddy has 4.30s in his 95 but with huge hoosier slicks and still spins if he just womps on it. As for the tuner/mail order tune isnt gonna be worth it... Thats just my opinion though. I got my sct a while ago with a tune and i can say it really wasnt worth the 300+ dollars for me. It does come in handy for checking codes and if you get dynoed though later on though. But if your tighter on cash right now gears will be the best bang for the buck.

Gears first. If you have plans on supercharging the car or turboing it, get 3.73's. N/A or spray, go with 4.10's at least. I have 4.10's and if i was staying N/A i was going to go with 4.30's. But im going f/i in the future. So im gonna go back down to at least 3.73's or 3.55's. But tdcalhoun, you should be right about 75mph with 4.10's at 2500ish. Thats what im at anyways. Dont worry about gas mileage either. Highway i still get the same mpg and same city. The only reason gas mileage goes down is how heavy your foot is. If you drive like a sane person, you'll get normal gas mileage. And also, just get a dyno tune along with a tuner. You'll need the tuner to re-calibrate the speedo anyways so just get some exhaust work done at the same time as the gears that way you'll benefit from a tune and you'll have your speedo corrected at the same time.

Gears are a good mod... but they really aren't that great as everyone makes them out to be... IMO. I have 4:10's and they made a difference but not enough to call it "BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK". Thats what i call my nitrous kit. Many don't spray so they have no idea... You really don't.. You just imagine. Ask anyone who sprayed their car and ask how addicting it is. I know OP doesn't want nitrous... i really don't care.. its his car, money, do what you want. Gears in all were decent. My LT and O/R H pipe made more of a difference to me than me gears.. JMHO.
Then i have people say well refills get expensive... blah... If you race using nitrous once a week... you will have your bottle for 2 months.. thats $40 in 2 months. Get that and multiply it by 6 for a year you have spent, $240 on refills A YEAR.... thats pretty cheap. You can buy a complete new nitrous kit for $400.. + $240 in refills you have spent a grand total of $640 in your kit. $880 in 2 years, $1120 in 3 years, $1360 in 4 years, $1600 in 5 years... while still being cheaper than a super or turbo and still being just as fast if not faster..
Those estimates are just an example... some use it way more, others use it WAY WAY less..
