Default how much better traction?

How much better traction will a 17x10.5 get compared to a 17x9 granted they have the same tire on? I do think the 10.5s look much better but between the rims and tires they are significantly more expensive.

I don't even think you'll notice a difference to be honest. I've had both 275's on a 9" rim, and 315's on a 10.5" rim (both with the same Sumitomo tires) and it didn't make any difference in terms of traction.

^^^That dont count. They would suck even if you had a 40" wide tire. lol now a decent tire would make a difference.

Yeah, i know the sumis suck regardless of the width, but i would've thought there would be a slight difference by going wider.

Theoretically there should always be slight difference (regardless of the type of rubber) when running a wider tire, but who knows lol.

That's what I figured. I just need some new tires BAD. the car came with the wrong size tire when I bought it (235/55-17) and they are terrible on top of that. When I shift into second at WOT I almost lose control every time lol

On the stock tires, just get a set of like 245/45-17 nitto nt555's, invo's, or another tire of choice for a good street tire.

I'd get some 245-45/17s up front and get a couple 10.5 inch rims and some 315's in the rear for the staggered look.

When I swapped from a 245 to a 275(when I got the cobras) The car had a little better traction.. not much though. It did keep the 4.10s at bay a tad better in 1st gear but other than that nothing to write home about.

Yea, when i went from a stock wheel to an 18x9.5 inch wide wheel, i felt it hook better. It was probably just due to the tires being nittos over toyo fz4's or whatever the stock wheels have on them. But you will notice a slight bit more traction going from what you have now to 315's on a 10.5 wide rear tire.
