Got my 01 GT and the carfax said that nothing has ever been done but I find it odd that the sticker in the door jam that has the codes for tranny and what not has a 3 letter/number paint markered on it. Also, on the lower intake down low in the valley there is what looks like a little yellow sticker almost like a price tag sticker it isn't all there but I can I can see it says 308 on it, also the block and bracket that holds the alternator are marked with paint marker. Just makes me think that it isn't he original motor, What do you guys think.

 

could be alot of things. Take it to a trusted mechanic or Ford stealership and get an oppinion on it.

 

When parts have a paint marked number on them, usually that is a stock number for a used part. The problem with carfax is that they only know if it was taken to a dealer or was put thru insurance. If I had a problem with my GT and paid for the repair out of pocket at Joe Blows Auto, carfax wouldn't have a clue. I work for a collision shop and we hear this all the time on both sides. Either someone doesn't want the accident reported to carfax because it will hurt trade in or sale value or someone bought a lemon and carfax didn't have anything on it. Chances are that is what happened. And as long as it was done by someone reputable, I really wouldn't worry too much about it. At least the PO cared enough to have the car taken care of.
