Default Jazzer get in here...

had a few questions about the t-56 swap. I just pulled everything and when it goes back in so does the t-56. but i wanted to clear up a few things. I know you had the article about your swap, but i didnt quite understand some of it. In anycase, the clutch and the flywheel stay the same right? i have 10spline, second i cant find reverse...i know it sounds dumb but i cant get it to go into reverse dont know how....the other thing i know i need is a cross member, but do i order a cobra transmission mount to? thanks

reverse is 1 click past 5/6 and up towards 5th, on the cobra there is a reverse lockout, with your swap there will not be. I've learned to live without it but still at times I accidently push it too far and grind reverse a bit when I am going into 5th.

When I did the swap we took the tranny mounts and cross member out of the cobra, clutch/flywheel will be the same, 10 spline will need to stay if you have a 6 bolt crank (which I hate since I had to swap the 26 spline input shaft out for a stock 10 spline because of my damned 6 bolt crank..) if you have an 8 bolt crank, get a 26 spline input shaft.

i have an 8 bolt crank, but i cant afford to do that at the moment. cuz i cant put it in myself and its spendy to have someone do it. Ive also heard you can upgrade clutch size? whats that about, since im buying an aluminum flywheel anyway i could change if i wanted to.

hrmms did you have a 10.5" clutch? I took the 11" clutch from the cobra we swapped mine in from.. I'd wait for Jazzer to get in here to confirm the clutch size thing since I swapped from auto, my process was quite a bit more involved.

I would still recommend you saving a bit more to get the 26 spline input shaft as the 10spline input is the main weakness of the t56. btw, I hate you for having an 8 bolt=/

meh didnt know what the advantage of having one was until just now....funny thing was i bought the tranny off ebay for 1200, rebuilt with bellhousing 6bolt flywheel and slutch with steel drivshaft, but couldnt use the clutch or flywheel, and i wont put that heavy ds in there either, but hey still worth it.

some people have wired up a button they have to press in order to get it into reverse. I just left it as is.

From what I was told, it's controlled by the computer and it can't be tuned in. Didn't ask much more as its not a huge issue. It really is hard once your used to it to shift it into reverse on accident. I've done it twice in a year and a half, both within the first month.

BTW MGW shifter for the T56 is t3h ****^^ I was a complete newb w/a manual and was able to drive cause it's shifts were soo notchy.

Yea, i'd love to find an 03 cobra t56 over the summer and the MGW would be the only shifter that i'd put on a t56.
