Default Muffler or Cat-Back Recommendations

I have just bought a stock 2000 GT Convertible and would like a little more aggessive exhaust note. Not looking for more power necessarily, just want a bit more aggressive sound than stock exhaust at idle and under accelleration without alot of resonance or excessive sound at hwy cruising.

Will the Muffler only swap provide the increase, (something like a Flowmaster 50 Series), or is the Cat-Back systems the only way to go? I would like your recommendations on specific products for both Muffler only and Cat-Back systems.

Thanks,

Barry

Either a muffler or cat back swap will provide some sound, but i'd do the cat back personally. 2.5" piping (vs 2.25") a better overall sound IMO, and it would look nicer too.

With that said we all have our favorites. Listen to the 100's of clips out there, and decide for yourself. I have the SSS cat back, and couldn't be happier, but it boils down to the individuals preference really.

you'll want to change ur midpipe out to get the most sound from mufflers also. 4 cats on 2.25" piping vs. 2.5" piping and no cats or 2 high flow cats depending on ur route.

i would get a full catback system, it'll help later on if you want to continue modding. go on youtube and look up exhaust clips and pick the one you like the most.

When i bought my car, came with some weld-ins and they sound great. If ur cash strapped and just want sound, buy mufflers. If u have some extra money and want some easier modding later on, take the extra time and get a cat-back.

Check youtube sound clips of SLP Loudmouth systems. Loudmouth 1 sounds good w/ stock midpipe, you'll want to go with Loudmouth II if you plan on getting an offroad midpipe in the future. At the end of the day, I think any system, no matter brand or if full cat-back or just a weld-in is gonna be an improvement in sound over stock. If you're strapped or just wanna save a little cash, just do weld-in and have some nicer tips put on, too.

Like everyone else check youtube, but u need 2 keep in mind what other mods the cars on there have. If they got LT headers or a different mid pipe than u. I got flowmaster 40's with a BBK o/r x pipe and the sound is ok (its a love/hate thing 4 me right now). I would also suggest the SSS brand. They seem 2 have a nice tone with out the rattle on the down side.
