Default Longer Wheel Stud Questions"

I had some ARP 3" studs put in my axles when i had the gear changed over for my trubo install and those things are huge!!! I don't really like how long they are when i run my 17" bullit wheels. Has anyone else put longer studs in their car? What are my options? Should i take them out and just run stockers? I put longer ones in because when i run my 15" street lite wheels at the track, the stud didnt stick through the lugnut and i guess they have to according to local NHRA rules.

Yep they are huge, but that's the nature of the beast. You can take them out and run shorter ones, but then you might not be able to run slicks at the track.

They really only have to thread into the hex portion of the lug nut an cetrain percentage of the measured with of the stud..... 3" studs aren't exactly required, they are just used really often because they will give at least the length required to do that on most wheels.

Can you cut them back to be bearable for the bullitt wheels and still meet specifications by the NHRA???

It all depends on the rim that is holding the slicks. Say he's running 1/2" inch thick studs, then the studs have to stick out past whatever wheel you are running by 1/2" in order to be threaded into the hex portion of the lug nut. Technically you could run stock length studs if you were running a steel rim that was thin at the center.

A lot of guys run wheels that are over 1" thick at the center, (such as weld draglites and pro stars) which is why longer studs are usually needed.

i could actually cut them but i didnt think it would be good to cut the studs? i didnt know if the heat from cutting them would be good for them.

Just get some sort of cutting lube or something and cut very slowly. Dont they make anything between stock and 3" wheel studs???

You could cut them if you don't need them quite that long, but it will be better to just get a shorter set.

I would check with the track for the rules, they may not allow you to cut them.

Don't cut them...just let them be. You made a good decision putting those studs in. Most tracks require it with slicks. I have aftermarket 17x9 stock-style bullitts in the rear and the lugwell sinks in so it's not AS obvious in my setup.

If you run prostars, they are perfect sticking out of the shank lugnuts:
