Default Comp Cams Stage 1 or 2???

Whats the difference in the Comp Cams you find on Americanmuscle.com? Both at $590 and both are same "extremem energy" brand. only difference is one is stage 1 and one is stage 2. Anyone know the difference?

intake/exhaust duration are different. Stage 2 is more aggressive then stage one. With a stage 2 cam you also need to buy valve springs and retainers, where in a stage 1 you can reuse the stock valve springs.

PTV clearance will be very tight with the stage 2's.

Is there a reason you're focusing on comp cams over some more well liked 2v cam brands? ie Hi-Tech or Crushman

the different durations in each stage basically decides were your power band is moved. In general the the higher the stage the higher your power band will be.

You really need to disregard the whole "stage" thing for a minute. The limiting factor on the stock PI heads is how much ptv clearance you have.

Bottom line...if you're staying with the stock PI heads, and don't plan on doing a blower in the near future, i'd highly recommend something like CMS stage 1's or MHS stage 2's. The Comp stage 1's should work as well, but they wouldn't be my first choice in the stock n/a application.

I did a ton of research in this area before buying my MHS stage 2's, and am glad i did.

+1, its a fairly well documented fact that Comp's grind isnt as good as some of its competitors. For the same money, better gains will be had.
