Default need help fast on engine swap

I found a engine and 5 speed trans with 40,000 miles on it about 30 miles from where i live for $2000. Has everything with it acessories and wiring harness. my questions is will that transmission mount up with out any modifications like tranny mounts and such. what I really need to know is will that complete set up go into my 96 gt 5 speed without any mods, a direct bolt in.? need to know asap I would like to go get it tomorrow. thanks guys

Wow sorry I guess I was that excited I forgot to say. its a 02 gt stock engine stock 5 speed. I may just end up buying the whole car but would still like to know if it will bolt up easy. What about the gauge cluster being digital can I just swap clusters?

I don't know how that will work if you can just switch clusters. I guess it just depends if the cluster reads RPM from the tranny itself, or if It is reading RPMS from the ECU. If it is coming from the ECU you might have a problem. I am just guessing though. You can always get a aftermarket tach.

and as far is it bolting right up, you might have more luck with a tranny out of a 99-01. But I think early 02's still had the older transmission, you might get lucky. (I dont know the names of the two trannys... shame on me ). Just thinking out loud.

Didn't think about that, but if I get the whole car I can just swap the ecu over to my 96 right?

What part of Miss are you in? I know a couple of extreme modular gearheads near the coast that could hook you up a ton better than that. Don't bother swapping ECU, that is a wiring nightmare for no gains and the transmission will not work with your current speedo.

Extreme north end of ms but if I can get a good deal I dont mind spending a lil on shipping. So the engine will work but not the tranny right? the tranny will work but the speedo wont right?

What are you trying to do exactly? Is your current motor blown? You really just need the longblock from the PI and swap your timing cover and water pump over. Yes the tranny will work but the speedo cable is totally different.

the motor runs good but is starting burn oil pretty bad and both the engine and tranny have over 140,000 miles. I was honestly going to stock long block with and new pi heads and go from there. Then I found this car with 40,000 miles on both engne and tranny plus leather interior and a set of torq thurst wheels for $2500 for everything, car was hit in back and has a salvage title. I just want a reliable engine and tranny for aome autocross fun and dd.

My original butget for the engine was $3000, what route could i go with that amount of money without getting to crazy with power unless its very realiable power.

Are you able to do all the labor yourself?

IMHO - I would spend the first $800 or so on getting the T45 rebuilt with a billet 3/4 fork. I am having a shop do mine that caters to the NMRA crowd. That leaves about $2K for a PI head swap. Do a compression test first to see if its the rings or just the valve seals that are bad on your current shortblock.
