Default which stall converterrr?

i know theres other threads about it and i been viewing them but im just curious of what stall you guys would reccoment to me. IM pretty sure I'm getting a PI stall. My car has 4.10 gears (which i heard allows you to be able to run bigger stall). I only work a couple miles down the road.. car's my daily but i wouldnt mind a setup thats a little radical. I also have Long tube headers, catback, k and n cold air intake. I plan to cam this car with a pretty good sized cam and run siome drag wheels or drag radials on my 18x10 saleen replicas. Ive talked to a few companies and they reccomened lower stalls like 32-3400. A lot of guys around here have been threw alot of stalls and I've even been in a car with a 4k stall and it felt like it drives fine as long as it has lockup. So i really wanted to get a stall like a 3800 or maybe bigger. Now im scared since the guys at PI said 32. So do you guys think there is any disadvantage of running a bigger stall like a 3800 or think i should get like a 3400. Need opinions on guys that have had stalls and lots of different setups.

I know you don't HAVE to drive far, but I really wouldn't put much of, if any, stall in a DD. I also don't see much of a gain in it without a higher lift cam, but with that it really helps. If you just must, I'd recommend something between 28-32 for the street, and higher if you had another car to drive.

If you're not having to drive it a lot, I think you're okay to stall it. I wouldn't go higher than 3500 though.

I agree that on a DD you wouldn't want a really high stall. I am in the same boat. I am getting ready to do a auto swap on my 2004 which will be street strip and I'm looking at a 3800. But I don't think I would go that high on a DD. I know track only guys that are going as high as 5500, but that would be horrible for street driving LOL.

Call up Alan at Dirty Dog Performance and give him the specs of your car. Obviously you would want to tell him any near future plans as well. You want to build the converter around what else is done with the car.

3800 (NA) is the best compromise for a 4.6 Its a good small diameter and a ton lighter, hits just before torque peak with most of the street/strip combos, and while costly going higher stall really gets expensive fast. Once you shift out of first gear the converter can be made to lock at all times (other than while shifting gears) so you never know you have a stall once in 2nd gear if you tune it right.
