Ok, so I got the nitrous installed this past weekend and everything is good, but when i spray it cuts in and out. If you watch the tach on the window switch the rpm's jump from where they are to like 10 grand back to 0 and it stops spraying when that happens. Anyone know what this could be? Thought a bad coil connection but that's not it.

Which window switch are you using, MSD?

 

Is it reading the correct rpm at idle and when you aren't spraying? If so disconnect the WS and see if the problem goes away. If not then the WS is not causing the problem.

 

Yes it's the msd. It reads correctly until I floor it and it will just jump like it's a bad connection

 

The fact that RPM's increase and drop out to the extremes I'm thinking rather then a bad/loose connection maybe a relay or solenoid is not grounded right and is shorting out the system. Can't think of any other reason the rpm's would spike only when the spray is active. If it runs fine without the switch then be sure all the switch specific wiring is correct and well grounded. Also, try MSD tech support, could be a defect that they have seen before.

 

Thanks jim that was what I was gonna try next, just wanted to see if anyone had the same problem. I have it grounded to the alternator right now i'm gonna move it and see if it changes anything. Ill let you guys know.

 

So I grounded it to the body. Didn't fix anything, and it turns out it does it when I'm not spraying too. I guess I didn't pay attention before. So what's the next move?

 

Take a volt meter and test your connections.

 

Ok I figured it out. I have the switch grounded to a factory ground under the dash with 2 other ground wires. I knew that would be too easy to work lol. I guess it's not getting a good ground through the other two. I hooked it to the battery negative and it worked no problem so after work yomorrow I'm gonna put it to it's own ground and we should be good to go. The bitch hits hard when it wants to haha. So i now have it grounded to the battery. Same problem. I'm stumped, whats next? Over the weekend i'm gonna try bypassing the window switch and see what happens. What are the chances the switch is defective?
