Default $2000 for cams and install?

So I got an estimate to have cams isntalled and the total came out to a little over $2000 with cams, install and tune. $2000 for 35HP does not sound like a wise investimate. I know everyone is going to say throw a SC on it and be done, but I like N/A power. I love the sound of cams, but the HP to money ratio does not sound like a good deal. Now what?

yay your finally learning that modding a 2v is almost a waste of money. until you start doing FI or some very crazy engine modding, these cars dont make much power.

the "now what" is up to you. you can either go FI, spend 2 grand for 30 horsepower, do a motor swap, or sell your car for one that will make better power NA (a 3v or 4v motor).

Cams: $550, springs: $200ish maybe(I forget off the top of my head), install: $1250?! That's someone ripping you a new a$$hole man. Install shouldn't be more than probably $500. Cams are a worthy investment I think, as long as you don't get ripped off on cam install.

If they pull the motor that's about right, even if not it's a big job so still about right

Have you ever called a shop and asked how much it was to install cams? I'm not talking a buddy who can get you a good price on the install either.

Well, cams $599, degreed $199, install $820, dyno tune $450, not including misc parts and stuff. I got another estimate for $350 to install and $350 to tune it, but not on a dyno. One seems really high and the other seems really low.

i'd help you do it if you were local, i've never done it before but i've been wanting to try... I've done cams on hondas... and they had 2 of them so can't be THAT much different
the whole 2 heads thing might throw it off a bit lolz.

I think that's the norm at my buddy's shop, not what I pay though lol a guy got some cams put in his 3v and kept the variable cam timing and his install was more, but I'd send the cams to modular head shop and have them degreed there as it's cheaper. Plus the decreeing them is the most difficult part of the install if I'm not mistaken. Just saying.
