go to a shooting range, rent some guns, shoot them, and see which ones you like.

This is very subjective but 9mm will be the cheapest to shoot and is plenty of power for defense or range fun.

The gun that fits your hand the best, is in your budget and you can still afford to shoot. Go with your standard calibers, 9mm, .40s&w, or .45 for semiautos, .38special or .357mag for revolvers.

If you want a SemiAuto striker 9mm, Glock 17/19, Ruger SR9, Smith & Wesson M&P9 are all good choices. I don't care for XD's.

Hammer fired SemiAuto's 9mm, FN FNX9, Sig P226/P229, HK P30 (<--my latest buy)

For Revolvers stick with Smith & Wesson and Ruger

Stay away from Taurus, Hipoint & Charter arms.

Yea thats gonna be the only surefire way to get to know all the guns. Unless you got a bunch of buddies with a bunch of guns and ammo to spare you cant really test them all. Kinda like it not being very practical to test drive every single car you're interested in. Watch lots of youtube videos and decide what purposes you want your pistol for and you should be able to make a good decision for what fits your needs. But pistols are a lot about feel and youtube videos cant test that for you. A lot of the times the reviewer will comment on how the gun feels to them so that can help.

I'm a first time buyer myself and just went through that headache of narrowing it down to a few pistols. Now I cant decide what to spend money on the stang or a pistol lol.

But you get a lot more use out of a car!
Just my opinion but I don't see the point of owning tons of guns, if any at all. I've never even fired a gun before and I don't see myself ever feeling motivated enough to go and get one.

It's a hobby just like anything else, but I see where you're coming from. I don't own guns but will someday when I have my own place
