Default Suspension Question

Does anyone remember what they paid to have a mechanic at a decent shop install new aftermarket springs? (springs only) '96 GT

I paid...NOTHING.

Springs are EASY to do, save your cash and do it yourself. If you dont have a jack, 4 jackstands, and a basic set of sockets and wrenches... Take the money you WOULD have spent on paying a mechanic and buy those tools.

There are plenty of tutorials on the net(American Muscle has a good one) that show you step by step on what to do. I swapped my rear end out with an IRS out of a cobra with a couple sockets and 2 wrenches. Buying a few tools now will save you a LOT of money from paying someone to do it.

I would never pay to install springs. If I didn't feel like doing it I'd have my 10 year old son do it cause it's that easy.

I paid a local guy $250 to install my springs, lca's, bumpsteer, c/c plates and alignment.

I agree - if you have the space, you can do it yourself.

Around here you're looking at $200 + to swap springs in.

Be clear on one thing that gets touched on but never quite clarified. If you determine to change out those springs and lower the car, you will only help yourself by making a new set of camber/caster plates a part of the modification.

Depending on the vehicle, the old OEM equipment may not produce enough offset to re-align the new strut angles with the proper camber/caster. Not stating it "MUST" be done but sure makes a difference on tire wear going forward if it occurs at the same time the new springs go in.

Cool. I appreciate the help. I'll get it done on my own. The c/c plates make sense, but i'm not sure if its gonna be a problem; the springs will only drop about 1-1.5 inches. definately something to look into after my springs are in, though.
