Default Hydroboost question!

I got an 04 GT and my hydroboost has failed TWICE! Well my question is can I put the hydroboost found on cobras and Mach1? I know they are different but are they better etc? Thanks btw first time it was replaced by Ford

As far as I know the Hydroboost power control/master cylinder are identical in V8 models, only the calipers and rotor sizes differ.

They are not separately specified, described, or otherwise differentiated in the shop manual. It is also a rather robust system, many people run well over 150k miles with no issues--IF flushed once in a while...

what exactly is failing? Does it star to leak? Are you replacing it with a new or used unit?

i have heard that the 1996-1998 hydroboost units differ from 1999-2004 only in the way that the accumulator is placed as well as some sort of nvh thing ford did for 1999-2004 that changed the shape of the firewall which caused a small change to the unit. i have also heard that the terminator hydroboost units are changed from others but they dont physically look any different. this is just what i have heard on other boards...no real evidence here.

The power steering fluid is leaking thru the hydroboost... My brakes are hard and when I press them my steering wheel moves lol! Also a whine comes out supercharger style lol! Anyways thanks for the reply guys but I honestly thought the cobra/Mach1 master cyl and hydroboost where different...

if your hearing a whining sound that would be your power steering pump. I think you need to figure out what is making your hydro boost go out before putting another one on. The hydroboost are pretty robust and aren't usually something people replace that often

not sure but make sure you keep topping off your power steering fluid.... that wine means the pump is low in juice. This happend to me with my old mustang and my power steering went completely out on the highway (Along with my brakes) at my exit. It was hard to control, broke down at the top of the hill. Always carry a few extra bottles around in case you need it.

You need to bring the car to a skilled mechanic and have it checked out as are you have been experiencing a number of component that appear either related to the quality of the replacement parts, or the quality of the installer's KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities).

I have a '03 GT, with 105k miles on the original generator and brake booster, and have driven over 50k miles with Steeda underdrive pulleys--something else is wrong.
