Mac header clearance for 4r70w
I was wondering if anyone knows if you can drop a 4r70w with Mac headers on? I hate to have to drop the K member just to get my trans out again. I posted on other forums but no answer. Anyone know?

i know the c4 is a good amount smaller then the 4r. but the bell housing is the same. my JW bell is thicker then a stock bell. i have bbk lts and was told on other forums by 4r70 and c4 guys. that mac and bbk are very similar headers in not allowing you to jack the trans straight up into the back of the block.
i had to grind a shiat load off by my starter on the backside of the bell for it to fit behind the bbk lt. for me atleast (i was told it was the same either way) you need to turn the trans on it side with the trans oil pan facing the driver side. go straight up like this and start to turn the trans when you get the starter ear of the bell behind the lt pipes. then go right straight up and should go right in. hardest part is twisting the trans and making sure you dont hit the lt with the starter ear. its such a tight fit that the trans wont clear the dowel pin that goes into the trans.
first time i did it i had 2 buddys help. had it almost in and out prolly 10x due to not grinding enough or in the right spot by the starter ear. this last time me and 1 buddy did it. (had trans out ALOT due to some issues with the builder etc..)
now i knbow the c4 weighs in around 115lbs with no converter and the 4r weighs in around 140ish with no converter. so your prolly gonna need 2 buddys.
but i was the same way like you i said f dropping the k and lt to install this damn trans.

Dropped the trans tonight. Got it out with both headers still on. They hated me for dropping it that way but it got done. Probably wouldn't recommend to others with Mac headers and a 4r70w.
Going to put in a QA1 K member before I put the trans back in so the next time I have to drop the trans it will be smooth and easy.
