Default Setting pinion angle and centering rear end.

Well as a continuation of a previous post https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-6l...yesterday.html , I figured I needed to start a properly titled thread. Basically the run down is that I am installing a new rear suspension consisting of Teamz z double adjustable lowers, and relocated double adjustable uppers. Seeing if anyone has gone through this process and has a walkthrough. It seems alot of people say its a nightmare and alot of people say its a peice of cake, thanks in advance for the information.

Easiest way to do the centering is on an alignment rack. Pinion angle is pretty straight forward with one of those magnetic degree levels. Obviously you need to have the weight of the car on the ground to make the proper adjustments.

I can haz old control armz?

Lol the old arms are gonna cost ya lolllzz, I'm assuming the centering is done vio the lower control arms? Adjusting the pinion angle do you leave one of the uppers disconnected?

Easiest and correct way to center the rear is to hang a plumbob from the center of each fender/wheel well and measure from that to the center of the rotor. Disconnect one upper and get the rear centered then add other upper but make sure it's the same length at the first one. To set pinion angle just measure the angle and adjust both uppers equal to get the proper angle.

Ok here is a really stupid suspensiopn noob question, when you go to adjust the rear to center it you disconnect one upper arm, then to make the adjustment you adjust the LOWERS, right?

Well heres a small writeup on the basics of centering the rear, and adjusting pinion angle. It really doesn't sound difficult at all now that its all explained.

I pretty much trying to get a full understanding on the installation. Do I install all 4 arms, then make the adjustments on the lowers to center the rear? Taking the car off the ground each time then dropping it and remeasuring? Then when thats finished simple adjust the uppers till the pinion angle is correct, in the same method? Are all adjustments made with the suspension bolted to the vehicle at torqued down? I've read something about making adjustments with one upper disconnected? I'm pretty much clueless hehe.

I've been where you are, don't worry! I spent 8 months trying to figure it out (yes, I'm that challenged when it comes to suspension!) I ended up trailering the car to TeamZ once I got the stuff installed and had them check it over before I went to the track with Dave. I picked up .4 in ET and 1.2mph with the exact same tuneup from the year before! He found that I had screwed up my pinion angle and instead of running 2-3 down, I was 8 up. LOL

I would set the lowers up to the same length as whatever you're taking off the car now. You can do this on the bench, one lower arm at a time. Once they're both back on the car, measure from the center of the front rotor to the center of the rear axle. The difference should be no more than a 1/4". The less the better. This is done with weight on the car.

Then, change out the uppers but only install the drivers side arm. Set your pinion angle with weight on the car and the car at race weight (ie: you in it, fuel, nitrous etc). Once the pinion angle is set, you can install the passenger arm. You shouldn't have to do any prying to get it in. Measure pinion angle again to make sure it hasn't moved. Dave was able to set the pinion properly and added preload "by feel" that we verified on a 4 corner scale afterwards.

With the spherical stuff you don't need to worry about snugging things up with/without weight on it as far as I know.

This will give you a good baseline and you can tune from there. Dave really is the guru on this stuff though. I don't like screwing with suspension, I just want the car to work

I took the car for a 4 wheel alignment afterwards and although it cost me a small fortune to trailer the car down to MI from where I live, it was worth every cent.

No you adjust the upper to center it. The lowers are only for front and back location.
