i'm from Charlevoix. Alternative Auto has done all the work on my car. i asked lidio at Alt.Auto last year about building my engine and he gave me a ball park of around $8000, a bit crazy if ya ask me. my advice, have a local garage do it here then take it down state and have it tuned.

Honestly, if you need to take it to a shop to assembly the short block, hone or bore, and set everything up, I think it would be alot cheaper for you to just buy an assembled shortblock from MMR. Alot of the times even after peicing one together it can still be cheaper sometimes.

I am a part of the do it right and do it once belief. In the end it saves you money and frustration. I would suggest that you get on the phone with all of the major modular engine builders. Before you call them be sure of what your goals are around the car (i.e. street and strip, strip, track car, track and street etc) targeted performance, the fact that you want to run a blower, etc. If you are not sure about all of that give them a call talk to them, ask a lot of questions, think about it after you have talked to them for a while then call back when you have a better idea of what you want to do.

I have found that when I talk with these guys about a project if you know what you are trying to do they can be very helpful and have real world suggestions. Also, in the end you will find one builder that you like better then the others regardless of the price. I always go with that builder for that project, my reasoning is that builder truly understood exactly what I wanted (just as I did). So far this practice has delivered my satisfaction.

As far as cost it has been my experience over the last few years that you can get a crate engine dropped off at your door step assembled and ready to drop in for the same price or less money then you can do it for yourself (getting a bare block and heads back from the machine shop and doing all of your assembly work yourself). Nothing else you can use the crate engine prices as the ball bark for a comparable engine build. Also when I build a mod motor I include $750 on top off all else for a tuner and dyno time.
