Default An experiment.

For those of you with handheld tuners.

I have the diablosport predator. I've had the 'diablo' tune installed since 06. I decided to go back to the stock tune and see what's up. I installed it.

Started her up and boom...750 rpm idle. And it didnt change. I've had idle speed issues for some time now. IACV of course. Cool! So I give her some gas and she revs up nice and smooth. No hesitation. I would get a slight stutter if I quickly tapped the pedal. It didn't happen with the stock tune. It smelled really rich. I'm pretty sure the previous owner but bigger injectors in it. Oh well. I take off. Shifts smooth. No serious change noticed. More in the throttle response. I get on the highway and accelerate in third up to about 5k. She still seems to pull just as hard. I depress the clutch and the tach falls to zero! WTF! It's wet...I'm going like 80. I'm not going to ****in turn the key over. Slowly let the clutch out. Tried it again. And again. It kept doing it. I could only assume fuel overload with no tune compensation. Weird.

I get home and install the diablo tune again. I play with the rev limiters. One for neutral and on for drive. Sweet I have a launch control! Not. I set it at 3k. And take off. And while I'm gear she won't go past 3k. Damn no launch control.

Anyone a diablosport guru? WTF can I really do with this thing? Seems stupid. I cand change wot fuel and timing but so what! Any bama tunes for this thing?

Diablo and superchips are probably the WORST handheld tuners out for mustangs. SCT is probably the best.... but nothing compares to The Special Forces tuner.

You cant set a 2-step with a Diablo I dont believe. The timing table is pretty limited, and your probably running pig rich from the Diablo base tune.

I have a diablo too. When I got my car dyno tuned the car was running really really lean. I was lucky it didn't do any damage.

Yes iv seen it.. its nothing new. All SCT did was take what normal truck tuners do and make it bluetooth. My Delta Force Software has the ability to use blue tooth to data log with and stuff like that.

I wouldnt sell your Diablo if all you want is a good tune, just go to a shop and have them tune it. Once you get to a shop, they will be able to do what any other tuner can do as far as producing good results. Shop tuners all use software that gives them full control over the PCM(like my Delta Force stuff does ) so once you take your car to a shop it doesnt matter what tuner you have.

At the basic level of handheld tuners though, some are more limited than others. from my experience diablo is a limited handheld. Its not worth the money to sell for another tuner unless you seek out the SF tuner. Thats worth the money, because it provides you with enough stuff to kill your car, so you can actually get a quality tune in your driveway.

Well I'm not exactly an engine tuner right now. Does it show live engine parameters?

You dont need to be an engine tuner. All you need is the ability to read, and a few hours to mess around with it after you do such reading.

Yes, the live data logger is shown on your laptop and you can set up which PIDs you want to view and how you want to view them, then download them to an excel spreadsheet for later analysis.

all you need is a wideband tuner, a good book on tuning, and a weekend to give yourself a decent tune. you really have to monkey around to hurt your car with SF, but you can do it, which I like. It gives you the freedom to give yourself a great tune, without paying some jagaloon out the wazoo to do for you.

That link you posted is the gizmo, but I would buy from Haney Motorsports, just cause Iv dealt with him quite a few times and kicked a few tunes back and forth to him, and hes a nice guy.
