Default Steering wheel squeak

Hey guys. Well lately, every time I turn my steering wheel, it seems to make a squeaking sound. Any solutions to fix this annoying sound? Dont really wanna take the steering wheel off, but Ill do whats needed.

I believe there are U-Joint like joint on the steering rod.
Maybe those are what is making the noise. If there is try greasing them up.

Maybe someone can chime in that knows if these car infact have these joints.

Is the noise inside the car like a high pitch squeel, or is it a dry socket sound thats louder with the windows down?

Its inside the car. It sounds like 2 peices of plastic rubbing against eachother.

Allow me to throw the book at you for a second.

May not be your exact cause, but from experience I know of a few TSBs that Ford put out for steering squeeks NOT caused by dry tie rod ends/ball joints.

First one is 05-14-3.. theres tubes and bushings that the steering rack mounts to, they call for replacing those.

Another one is not related to our cars, but I remember doing a ton in Aviators. The fluid in the rack was actually causing a squeeking, which sounded just like rubber on rubber squeek inside the car. Procedure was to remove the lines from the rack, crank the wheel full lock to lock a couple times to remove all the fluid from the rack, drain the PS reservoir, and fill it with merc V and a touch of friction modifier.

Just a thought if you cannot find an obvious cause

+1 the sleeves and bushings for the rack can do this.

Pretty rare to have a thread with solid advice from three of the most knowledgable people on this forum, whitefox, uber and cliffy. Best of luck getting it all figured out.

Thanks for the advice. Are you sure it could be those? I mean Ill change them anyway. The bushing looks like its almost falling apart. I thought it wold be an actual issue with the steering wheel since the sound was coming from the steering wheel
