My 00 is doing the same thing, the paint didn't adhear well to w/e that stuff is. But as far as looks who cares, keep your trunk shut haha.

Yup. It's bothers me a little, but not enough that I'm going to mask off and paint it only to have the paint peel again.

Unless it's a show car that you leave the trunk open on it doesn't really matter. Just make sure it's not coming up and causing leaks in your trunk. I had that happen on previous cars (90's vehicles with a different trunk sealant). But if it's not leaking just leave it alone, you'll create more problems then you fix.

does your trunk have the both vin stickers still in it? If not it may have been repainted and that could be seam sealer from the body shop...
