Default Bought a 2000 GT auto

I am looking to go ahead and get headers x pipe and exhaust system. What would be the best place Price wise to order from and what should I go with. It is an Automatic. And should I go with an CAI also? My next upgrades will be next year in the form of a Kenne Bell Supercharger. Don't want to buy anything that can't be utilized with the supercharger though. Hate to waste money. Thanks

CAI isnt necessary except for "bling" factor. its been proven again and again that a good filter in place of the stock filter, and removing the filter "boot" that surrounds it will yield the same results as a CAI kit, and be easier on the budget, which will allow you to save more for the KB.

as far as exhaust, its totally personal preference. longtubes are a PITA to install, so expect a big bill or some banged up knuckles & a weekend of your time.

I personally like magnaflow magnapacks. if your doing a full exhaust, i'd stay away from SLP as its too loud (without great tone), but as i said its all personal preference. the SLP thing is from personal experience. installed them from the get go as my first mod, and loved em with stock H, but now i'm running a bit more complicated exhaust and its just too damn loud.

American Muscle has decent prices on everything. if you cant find it there, a simple google search will yield everything else you need.

Ok so I bought the car, found a coolant leak around the lid to the coolant reservoir not sure what is exactly leaking yet, and I also found out the rubber gasket going into the fuel tank around the vent tube is rotted out after I filled it up. No sure how much gas poured out until it finally stopped, going to get the gasket to hopefully fix that tomorrow. And other than that the tires need balanced and put on the correct direction. Here are some pics of it.

This is where the coolant I think is leaking

And here are the car pics

Thanks for the reply, When you say remove the filter "boot" what do you mean exactly? And what filter would you recommend using? I had thought about the SLP loudmouths exhaust but if you think they may be to loud I might go with another brand. I want a really throaty exhaust note not to load but load enough that makes me smile.

any large paper filter would do fine. there have been many discussions on filter choice. many people go with K&N, and i dont have a problem with them. others will say that the power benefit is due to the fact that they dont filter out as much as they should, meaning more dirt goes into the motor. by "boot" i mean that if you look at where the air filter is located, you will see that there's a huge plastic shroud that covers it, and that shroud shrinks down to a very small orifice that goes into the fender. this small orifice is too small, by opening up the shroud (removing it) you expose more area for the filter and eliminate the choke point (more air flow).

as far as throaty, just go to youtube and search for mustang exhaust, there's all kinds of combo's out there, as i said, i personally prefer mangapacks, but i run SLP LM1's (on a custom turbo exhaust mind you) and its too loud without cats. magnapacks are pretty "throaty" but if you want the classic throaty "5.0" sound, you cant go wrong with flowmasters. IMO they're a bit over-rated though, not for me. there's also Bassani. lot of cobra and vette guys love 'em.

btw you might wanna clean up them battery terminals, or get a new battery. and as far as the coolant tank, you can get an aftermarket one, again americanmuscle.com is a good place, and there are other sponsors on this forum as well. google mustang parts for other websites. if you want a pretty good list of dealers that i use i can PM you if you wish.

good lookin stang otherwise.

oh and 1 more thing, you said that the gromet for the filler tube on your gas tank is leaking? do 1 more thing while your under there since you gotta replace it anyways, there's like a shield that goes around the filler tube itself... remove it! its been known to trap water and other crap inside it, causing the filler tube to rust pre-maturely and leak. hopefully you can catch it soon enough and not have any rust. i'd give it a coating myself if you can. even if its just some simple rubberized undercoating.

I would look into that coolant issue further. It looks like it's been spraying out of there pretty good for a little while. Just fill up the system and run it and look for where it's coming out of. It's either coming from the cap or the reservoir is broken and it's coming from there.

Well I got the expansion tank ordered, a new cap fixed the leaking issue but the radiator light is on and I cant't replace the sensor in it so going to replace the tank, I got a new battery in it and cleaned all the terminals, replaced my rubber grommet in my fuel tank so I am no longer leaking fuel, and that fixed my check engine light. I also changed my fuel filter it was full of nasty stuff so who knows how long it has been since it was last changed, and I changed the oil with some Mobile 1 Synthetic 5w30 high miles oil and Mobile 1 filter. The car seems to run 100 times better now. Tomorrow I am off to get new tires and an alignment so there go my exhaust funds. Both fronts have steel belts showing.

Well I got my Flowmaster Cat-back exhaust on today and it sounds like a totally different animal. The exhaust has the super 40's on it.
