Default stepping up

oh hai mind if I come over from the 6er section? im currently looking at 2 GT verts, ones a 99 with 108k and ones a 02 with 140k, Just wondering what people are getting for them and if there is anything special I should look for on the 4.6s? the lady didnt know as much about the 99 other then she wanted to get rid of it, she wanted $5400 for it, its silver so it matches my PSD, new tires and maintained etc, was a pretty clean looking car, didnt drive it though.

the 02 on the other hand, very well taken care of all service records, new cloth top last year, all fluids brakes, tires, (with recipts) and it was cleaner then my 02 (never spit spark plugs either), he however wants $7500 for it, does that seem high price for miles? you wouldnt know the miles by looking at it though

also the "fobra" badges have to go it also has slowmasters and a BBK cai

any thoughts? think the extra money is worth the repair recipts and the ~$2k new top is worth the extra 2k on price?

I would not pay 7500 for a car that has 140k miles on it .maybe like 4-5k most imo

Just for reference mine is an 04 auto. I bought it with 82k for 8000. The top wasn't great, but it was mechanically "unspoiled". I think the 02 there is about 1k too high.

You have room to negotiate on both cars. Like spivey3, I paid less than 9k for my 01 convertible with under 60k miles.

That's a lot of miles on that 02 man. If you know a mechanic in your area I would suggest you take it there and get it up on a lift to look underneath. Inspect the hell out of it for leaks, etc.. A little extra time pre purchase can save you hundreds down the road. If you cant get the car in the air, think thin and grab a flashlight.

As far as the new top, you can get a replacement top (not the window part) for $150 from American Muscle. I know the Ford dealer here will install for $500, so personally I don't think it brings up the value of the car $2k.

Before you offer anything, take the time to inspect.

before you buy anything, make sure you take the car to a mechanic you know and trust and have him inspect it for any faults, people will go to great lengths to pull something over on unsuspecting buyers. I had a guy that made up a fake bill of service that went on for about 3 years, turns out the car was a wreak and need just about everything replaced. Keep your eyes open for **** like that

I got my '02 Vert last year with 55k miles for $8k. Very clean, lowered and MAC cat back.

I like the female driven '99 that you could probably get for under $5k myself. I also agree with taking it somewhere to put it up on a lift.

It's a cloth top (cobra) fwiw, I can't even think of the last time I went to a mechanic, I squeaked my fat *** under it and there's no drips from anything and not even surface rust, My first though was about 65-6800 for the 02, it is very clean and well taken care of, but 140k on it, the 99 might be sold will learn more later, but prices in ma are crazy right now, and really don't feel like driving more the 2-300 miles to find one

I'm looking for a 5 speed vert in any color but white (no tan tops either) for preferable around 6500
