Running Lean??
I recently got a SR performance CAI since they all do the same basic thing. Well I noticed that she had been idling a little on the rough side after I installed it. Then as I was getting gas, I left it running and it stalled. It has a code that is a P0174 I have a diablosport predator tune installed with 87 octane. Is there any settings I need to change to make it run optimally? This is my first post so if I did something wrong or stupid please try to be a little nice. Read all kinds of awesome info on here!
I have a bama 93R tune with a cai and throttle body. It does the same thing if im just cruising on the highways it throw that same code but when im on it, its fine. I'm not sure if its something in the tune or not, because it didnt do it before I put the cai and tune on. Most of the time i'm just driving short trips so its fine and i dont really worry about it.
check for leaks in the cai. if its sucking air after the maf, then it would cause it to run lean. since the factory cai des such a good job, after market cai's will not gain little to nothing hp wise. this being said, your cai shouldnt cause the lean code.
I notice a difference in the throttle response the most which is what I wanted and today I stopped by advanced auto and got some MAF sensor cleaner as well as some sea foam so we'll see how that goes and check it again. Is there anything I can change in my tuner to help with this? Unfortunately there isn't an option for a CAI in it :/ guess we'll see how it goes!
Hey 46L281gt. You need a custom tune from a diablo sport dealer. Some can email you a tune. I use a sct flash tuner. All 99-04 mustangs with a tuner without a custom tune I've seen will through the too lean code at you specially if you do any mods to the air fuel ratio. Including cai and aftermarker headers and H-pipe with little to no cat. Try unistalling the tuner first and see if you get a too lean code. Sometime it's the tuner itself. You will get more air to fuel running a cai.
Thanks mustang Phil that sounds reasonable to me. After I cleaned everything I haven't got another code yet but it still idles rough. Are they going to charge me for an extra tune? I would love to get the tune but not willing to pay the extra cash. Thanks!
One tune is usually around $100. sounds like your sucking air. Check your cai to see if you have an open plug on the tube. Alot of aftermarket cai have this for NOS applications. If so just pull it out and silicone the rubber grommet up. The stock cai is a great one but doesn't look as good and has room for improvement. I only got about 4 more hp with the one I have on my 03 gt. Dyno proven but not impressive.
The "Oiled filter makes oily MAF" isn't really true though. I can't remember if it was Spectre or K&N that tested it but they used a normal filter, no problem. Insanely over oiled filter, no problem. Dipped the entire sensor in the oil and had it suspended the oil while wired up, no problem.
I'm willing to bet there's a problem elsewhere, including potentially a dying O2 sensor.
