Default Performance advice what worked for you?

Trying to wake up my 1996 GT. Thinking about a chip, tranny shift kit (although I just learned that electronic tuner is better but I don't even know how that works!). What can I bolt on to improve horsepower for the track?

Give me everything that worked for you thanks!

Moved to correct section - please look at the section and not just "4.6" to post your threads

Default Performance tips

Thanks. I'm having real trouble finding the list of different sections.

So can anyone give me some ideas to wake up my 4.6, perhaps a good tuner that I can buy? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

best bang for your buck on the 96-98 npi 4.6's is the 99-04 pi swap. Here's a write up:

PI swap is pretty much the foundation to getting any real performance out of this engine. It is however - and watch out because I'm going to use a technical term here, a **** ton of work or a hefty labor bill to contend with. As far as addressing your question on tuners, americanmucle.com, lmr.com, steeda.com, brenspeed.com, there's a few reputable others that all sell tuners with custom tuning for all around the same price. It will give a nice little bump in power, mostly in the midrange of the rpms.

Don't bother with "chips". Unless of course there is some salsa involved.

If you have an auto trans, Google "4r70w jmod". After that's done, start thinking about gears and converter.
