Default Oil leak

Oil leaking from this bolt

hey guys, i’m trying to track down a small oil leak. this is out of my sons 2004 GT. We swapped in a new bottom end from a crown Vic. You can see in the picture it’s leaking from the bolt that holds the power steering pump to the block. I know there should be no oil coming from that bolt. I assume it’s dripping down from somewhere above it.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas before I start ripping the front of the engine apart Sting, about where it could be leaking from.

What color is the oil? It could be the P/S pump.

It’s brown, definitely oil. I use ATF for power steering fluid, so red is easy to spot.

I pulled the pump to look behind it and when I took that bolt out a bunch of oil came out. It made a little pool of oil. So I cleaned it all up and put some rtv on the threads and reassembled it. It hasn’t leaked anymore.

Now my concern is that I am forcing the oil to go somewhere else. Unless it is supposed to be free to flow behind the timing cover.

Yes, behind the timing cover it is free flowing. You have the timing chain there which requires constant lubrication while the car is on.
