Default Hurst Shifter Rattle

Anyone else having a problem with their hurst short shifter rattling like crazy when you step on the gas?

Anyone have any ideas as to the problem or how to fix it?

Thanks,

JW

It's those 2 allen-head bolts they provide to fasten the shifter stick.
I've had to tighten mine up twice - second may have been the charm as I torqued the hell outta them and I've not had any rattling since.
If it starts rattling again I'm replacing those with conventional head bolts (much easier to get a wrench on).

Some of the hurst shifters had problems in the beginng and they replaced them on warrenty. The rattling was the main reason.

Yeah, it's definately the allen bolts I have the same problem have tightened them only once so far but think I need to do it again soon.

Mine has done the same thing twice because of those 2 bolts. Best solution is that the bolts go all t he way through and there is enough room on the other side to use a nut. I didn't have any in my garage, but will go to the local hardware store and get a couple with a lock washer and see how that works. It should theoritically.

Could try some blue thread lock on there to so if you ever needed to take it out you could still get the bolts loosened up.

Well wouldn't you know today i took the stang out of the garage for a little ride and while i'm at a stop light i go to shift down to first and the handle started to work its way loose. So when i got home i put some blue locktite on it and torq'd the crap out of them. Hopefully i don't have to worry about them coming loose for awhile.

Check the bolt at the front of the shifter, the one that attaches to the tranny and has the circular polyu bushings.....mine backed out over half way.....i could literally watch the shifter move while I drove...I put blue lock-tite on it....
