Default Best Axles and why?

I'm going to eventually redo my gears since they are whining more and more and if money allows I want to throw some stronger axles into the mix, maybe even a new diff. What else should I be looking into back there. Who makes the best of the best for the street? I know I'm not really pushing the limits for the stock rear end but once I dig into it I'd like to never have to do it again. Plus I like having the piece of mind that my rear end shouldn't explode once I do put some power to it. Thanks in advanced.

The diff is the main weak spot in the rear.

The most popular replacement is the Detroit Truetrac.

The axle shafts are already very strong stock. They're 31 spline. If you do need something stronger you can get axles from Moser or some similar aftermarket axle company. However, I've heard that they are not a drop-in fit on these cars becasue of the anti-lock brake sensor rings.

EDIT: I originally said "35 spline". That was a mistake, so it's been fixed.

35 spline! I thought they were only 28 maybe 31 spline. I remember seeing moser advertise they're axles come with ABS exciter rings. Are they a PITA to install. But as long as they are good to 500-600hp them maybe I won't worry about them and just focus on the diff. Does Truetrac make a diff for 35 spline axles or does that even matter?

Moser has a lot of parts for our 8.8 rear axle. They also make a 9 inch replacement for 2005 and up stangs that is supposed to be a bolt in with no mods (except drive shaft) necessary. I doubt even with SC and bottle you could get enough power past the tranny to break one of those babies!

My mistake on the spline count, I must have been thinking Dana 60 for some reason... You guys are right, it is 31 spline.

I haved edited my original post to reflect the goof.

Anyway, point is the axles are very strong.

Regarding the aftermarket shafts: I might be just blowing smoke here, but I remember reading either on this forum or on m o d u l a r f o r d s that someone had bought Moser axles and they were NOT a drop-in fit. He had to do some machining on them to get them correct. Now perhaps that has been since corrected--but I would make damn sure that the axles would be a drop-in before I'd buy a set.

+1, I had a set of 31 spline moser axel's with c-clip eliminator's on my fox body and had no fitment issue's, they are by far the best brand out thier for what you are wanting to due especially on a dailey driver. But the stock axel's are not a weak link by any mean's on the s197's.

Where can I find the best deals on a TruTrac and TA girdle. Does the TA girdle require a panhard relocation bar?
