Redline
I know the redline in the new GT's is 6000rpms, but is there any reason to go past this while racing or is it a bad idea? I havent done it yet, but I was reading about an intake for the 05-07 GT and it was talking about gaining 22hp at a 6100rpm peak. How could that be if the redline is 6000rpms? Thanks
Most of us set the rev limiters up a bit (mine is at 6,800) to keep from hitting them under normal conditions.
6K is usually around my shift point. I don't think running it all the way up to 6,800 buys you much (if anything) unless you are modded enough (cams/heads) to have shifted your torque peak significantly.

I *believe* the stock rev limiter is set at 6,250
My Brenspeed tune came with the rev limiter set at 6,800. So not a lot for a small block.
Again, you're not building any power after about 6K so that makes a good shift point. Moving the rev limiter up a bit just insures you don't hit the dreaded fuel cut off if you are just a little late with the shift.
I have not heard of anyone grenading their engine by over-reving it.

Oh ok thanks. But by over-reving it, do you mean past 6000 to say 6200, or past 6000 up to 6800? Like you said, I would always try and shift at 6000, but you know in the heat of the moment I might forget because I'm used to my 8200 rev limiter.

I mean past 6,800. I've had mine 6K+ multiple times with no problems.

going past 6K won't kill it but to much can. Your valve springs are only good until so much rpms. Say you did hit 6600rpms, you could easily float a valve or break something else or it could be fine. I know some people with SC's or nitrous and gears will usually trap in the 1/4 mile track in 4th gear around 6K or 6200rpms, but i wouldn't try to do that much, accidents happen hear and there though.
I think the stock setting for the rev limiter is 6200, I have hit it a on numerous occasions. It is a bitch because it just shuts you down, then the throttle by the wire waits for what seems an eternity (probably half a second) to turn the gas back on after you make the shift. The best thing is to make sure you shift at 6000 rpms to aviod the shut off. If you use a tuner to raise the limiter you are asking for trouble on a stock bottom end (premature engine failure) and the horsepower and torque drop off pretty quickly after 6 grand anyway. Put a set of 4.10's in an you will always be in the power band.
