3" pipes
So i went to my muffler guy, he did my flowmasters. i told him i want offroad cats and X pipe. hes like its gonna be toooo loud your gonna hate it . he said i will do this for you make you 3" xpipe all the way to the mufflers for 150. and your car will be alot more louder and you will gain some hp.
Would you guys recommened me getting 3 inch piping or is that too much?

RE: 3" pipes
I predict you'll lose horsepower. Ford designed your exhaust to maximize what you can get out of 281 cubic inches, and this would have involved thousands of hours designing your exhaust to BOTH maximize flow and reduce back pressure. Jacking it up to 3 inches will definitely reduce backpressure, but it will also reduce flow.Your exhaust gas dynamics for a normally aspirated engine were optimized for a 2.5 inch pipe, and unless you plan on forced induction, a 3" pipe won't buy you a thing. If you truly believe alarger pipe is going to boost horsepower, than I suggest you go all the way and make it a 6 inch pipe end to end. Your backpressure will be practicially non-existent, and so will your exhaust flow.

3" would be good for forced induction, but 2.5" is fine for most of us. In factFord could have probably gone with 2.25" and been fine. I think the 2.5" is why our intake+tuner combos are such a good mod. Ford hooked us up with essentially "stock-aftermarket".
