How to identify exhaust system
Hey guys - I picked up a 2005 Mustang GT about a week ago. I work at Carmax and got it from there with my employee discount. I know it's got some sort of aftermarket exhaust system (I'm assuming an axle-back) because the car I got sounded much louder than all of the other 2005+ Mustang GT's I've driven at Carmax. My question is how do I identify what is on the car? I looked underneath the car yesterday hoping that maybe I would see a logo like some of the manufacturers will put on their mufflers, but no luck. But to be totally honest, I'm new to Mustangs and really new to V8's entirely. Before this car I owned a 4 cylinder turbo, so I really don't even know what to look for. If I posted a photo, could somebody here help tell me what I have? I appreciate any help or advice!
Sorry for the delay guys, I got super busy at work this weekend and didn't have a chance to jack the car up and take some photos til last night. Like I said before, I'm not exactly sure what to even look for, but I took pictures of the sections I thought might be relevant. I couldn't get far away enough from the exhaust to get a great angle for most of these pictures, so please bare with me.

I took several other pictures, so if there is a picture of something important missing here, please let me know. Any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated!

To me it looks like a Flowmaster muffler but not the axlebacks that Flowmaster makes for the 05 Mustangs. It looks like they used the stock tips and welded them to the newmufflers. It looks like they also cut the other entrance pipe off the stock muffler and used that on the Flowmaster which kinda looks like a hack job.The rest of the exhaust looks stock.

Guys thank you so much for helping me clear that up. So basically the guy who sold the car to Carmax had some random pair of flowmaster 40 series mufflers and instead of buying the Mustang mufflers, he just had somebody hack up what he had and weld it together with pieces from the stock muffler to make it work?
Wonderful. It definitely looks like a hack job from underneath the car doesn't it? This is the goofiest exhaust - It sounds pretty good at idle, then isn't very loud at all when going through the gears or giving a liberal amount of throttle, but then drones so loud I can't hear the stereo at anything lower than 2k rpms in 5th. I will definitely be replacing this exhaust in the future. Thanks again for the help.

I have the Flowmaster Axlebacks for the 05 on my own car and I love them. Some Mustangs I've heard have a raspiness to them especially when they get on it,I don't know what kind of mufflers or changes to the exhaustthey have madebutI think it sounds terrible. The best way to pick an exhaust is to hear it with your own ears and not by sound clips then you get the real sound.Other changes to the exhaust make a differance too (headers, x-pipe,no cats, etc). Mine is all stock except for the Flowmaster axlebacks and I wouldn't change anything else the sound fits me just fine. Everybody has their own taste in what they think sounds good. Good luck with the car.
