Default 3v engine question

well im thinking of getting an 05+ GT. from what i understand they have an aluminum block. so my question is how are ppl making such big power on the aluminum blocks. ive heard ppl say that the block is real weak and wont handle too much power yet i see some guys running 600+ HP on a stock block. so whats the secret!? that way i dont blow up my engine if i decide to go with the 05+

Great question...I am running about 450 RWHP with the Whipple H.O. and the A/F ratio is perfect and the car itself is relatively new (3100 miles). I was told the weak point on the car is the rods which have been thrown through the block with some of the overly aggressive tunes and higher HP applications that people are running. I was told that 450 RWHP is about the limit for the stock bottom end and that the longevity of the motor will be shortened after FI. How much depends really on the tuner and the driver. If you mash the pedal all the time and track the car often you will fry the motor at some point. Here is a link for some reading on the 05+ mustangs and the tuner of this shop in MI is great and I only have motor work done through him and him only. JMO hope it helps http://www.alternativeauto.com/

I have heard that the block is good for 800 horses. The powdered rods on the other hand are only good for about 450.

yes do the forged crank, rods and pistons. Ford's been sticking us with weak cast intenals since the 1993 5.0's, with the exception of the 4.6 4v's and the 5.4's[:@] but the sixxers get forged internals so WTF?

I'll go ahead and agree with everyone above. The block itself can handle plenty. The rods will be the first to go, and seem to be the culprit in the vast majority of blown up 3V engines. I haven't even heard of any stock crank failures yet, even at 500-600hp levels.

Just think how pretty we'd be sitting if Ford had at least given us some forged rods.

the carnage section of the brenspeed site shows one obliterated crank but doesn't give any details on how it happenned. It's worth checking out though.

Oh I'm sure it has happened. I'm just saying that it isn't common enough an event to consider it a weak link......especially not compared to the rods. There are some ppl out there that are just talented enough (ie: stupid) to find a way to break even the most unbreakable parts on their car. Never fails...
