Default GEARS OPINIONS

Hey everyone. One mod I have never really considered until now is gears. I'm like everyone on here. I want more power for little money! Does anyone have suggestions as to what gears would be best for me? I want power but am not looking foward to sacrificing gas mileage. Help please! Oh yeah; what brand / seller should I go with?

Gears won't give you more power but they will get you to, and through, your car's power band quicker. Your 05 already has 355s stock, so going to 373s won't give you much. IMO, consider 390s or 410s. In either case, if you do a lot of city driving your gas mileage shouldn't change much (it might even improve since you'll be in the higher gears -at your typical rpm range for that gear - earlier). If you do mostly highway driving though - your mileage will decrease. As for which brand, I've heard good and bad about almost all of them but the one constant is that the installer is the key. IMO, research the gear threads, pick one you're comfortable with, then find an experienced installer who is willing to give you references.

I'm ready for the 4.10.

Here's a few words about gears that convinced me.

Okay it souds like 4:10s are the way to go. I have a few questions thou. How bad will my gas mileage suffer? How much top speed will I lose? When I get my supercharger; will the gears be too short?

Your gas mileage will depend on what type of driving you do (highway/city).

Top speed question you will still be able to go over 120 I cant see why you need to go faster.

One the supercharger it depends on how much boost you are running. There are many people running 4.10s with whipples etc...

Yeah im looking into a kenne bell. Whipple or saleen would be next on my list.
Regular mustang go up to 155. Are you saying with 4:10's; 120mph would be toping out??? [:'(]
I do mostly city driving but some highway. Thats kinda hard to answer my gas mileage question huh? Does anyone have a gase mileage range with 4:10s?

I have a 5 speed GT and recently installed 4:10's. Just took a 230 mile trip yesterday, all highway miles, cruising 70-75 the whole way and ended up with 22.7 mpg. That's a drop of 2-3 mpg compared to what Iused get with the 3:55 gears. However, it was really windy and I think that contributed to my drop in mileage also. I've heard most guys say they only lose 1-2mpg on the highway. My mileage around town has gone up a little bit though and most my driving is between 40-60mph. which is perfect with the 4:10's. From a performance standpoint they absolutelyrock and I don't regret it at all.

One more thing, I'm NA and plan to stay that way. I don't think I would want 4:10's with FI. Traction's already a problem now in 1st and 2nd gears.

Hey thanks matt. I like hearing around town mileage went up. 80% of my driving is around town anyway! Reffering to your traction; get new tires! hhahahahah! jk! I do definitely want a blower for my car. I guess many people use 4:10's with superchargers?
