Default 4.10 question

I have an 06 auto GT. Most of my driving is near home in the city. SoI ordered some 4.10's. They haven't even arrived yet and I'm already debating whether or not to send them back and exchange them for 3.73's. My question is, if I ever need to make a long trip, (and I will), say driving several hours at a time, will it hurt my tranny or anything else? Besides my wallet? I have no plans for S/C and will never be racing, but it's my DD and I do like to get out of town now and then. I'm losing sleep over this [&o]. Thanks for any advice!

The 4.10 is a bit aggresive for the open road. You will be higher in the rpm band and use more gas at cruising speed. It won't hurt anything on your car so don't worry there. Long term, your car MAY wear out sooner because higher rpms mean more wear quicker, but if you don't do it everyday, what's the diff? I would have gone for the 3.73's though but that's me.

dont worry about it... 4.10s...just do it...

there wont be any damage to your car, and that **** about it wearing out...blah, just take care of your maintenance with fluid flushes and oil changes, etc.

The only damage will be the extra gas, and even then, its only like 500RPM higher than stock...so its not that bad...

GOod choice with the 4.10s

Ahhh Bite me! We all know, well at least all but 1 of us know that higher rpms mean more stress on the engine, more heat, and over the long, long long term, more wear. Again.....BITE ME!!!

Put 4.10 in my last two mustangs never had a problem ,my last mustang I put 8,000 miles on it no problems before I sold it. Talk to people with 4.10 they'll tell the same thing, dont listen to people that have never had them!!

I have 4.10s in a Manual. I have no issues or qualms about running it for extended periods on the highway. The rpm diff and decrease in MPG is pretty small.

I am happy with them, it hits the powerband REAL quick, lots of fun.

But...If I had to do it again I think I'd select 3.73s or perhaps try the 3.90s. As it is 1st gear goes by so quick that it is marginally useful. Don't get me wrong, its not bad and I'm not unhappy but I think I'd trade the hard kick in the pants for a bit more useful 1st. This is going to be much magnified if I ever supercharge it, in fact I can just figure the cost of 3.55 gears into the price of a supercharger.

Don't know what it would be like on a auto though. I know the conventional wisdom is 3.73s for Auto, 4.10s for manual. I have no idea why people say this...maybe someone would care to explain.

I don't know. Is our gears 1-5 the same ratio? All that quick shifting would heat up our TC's big time.

1st off running your car at at 3000 rpms at 80 mph wont hurt your car at all. Dont listen to that stupid sh**.... Like homeboi said.... I always heard 3:73's are better for autos (especially if you get a supercharger {3:73's being a better gear for superchared applications}). If you put on you're 4:10's I am 100% sure you will be nothing but satisfied. I honestly think if you do not plan on FI in the future; do not send your gears back. Install the the 4:10's. You will love the head jerking power!

Thanks. Here's a better pic. it's a Cervini ram air hood. Not sure which model. It was on the car when I bought it. aftermarket stripes too. Stock exterior otherwise.
