Default Gears?

Hello all,
I have a 06 GT with the following few mods:
x pipe
Overaxle pipes
Bassani axleback
CNL's Racer CAI with Diablo Predator matching tune

I will be adding either a whipple or saleen s/c in the next few months but would like to continue with some more mods that will benefit me now and once the s/c is on. I get days off in groups since I am a firefighter so downtime is not really an issue.
I was thinking about getting some 3.55 or 3.73 gears put in. Any advice or experiences with these and how the results went?

I have been researching and studying all the bolt ons and power add ons and still cant decide what is next and which of the two s/c kits to go with.

I am in Tucson, AZ so temps get a lil high in the summer and the elevation at the track is just over 3,000 feet. So, unfortunately its a slow track. Any advice or personal experiences would greatly help me out.

3.73 best all around performance gears, 4.10's of you really love the tracks and will run slicks.

Sorry forgot to list that its manual. I will still be driving on the freeway here and there so I think 4.10s might be a little much. So you are saying 3.73s are the best all around for track and street? How do you like your Whipple?
Also, anyone know average price for install of the gears? Is that the next mod I should do or should i do LT headers next?

I'm in the same boat as you as my GT is also a DD. I'm pretty sure I'm going buy pro. 5.0 3.90 gears for they should be the best balance between street and track.

ok, well I priced out 373s and for the kit and bearing and oil, its about $395, and the dealer wants $600 to install (OUCH!) so I will shop around as I should be able to find someone to do it for $300 ( I hope!)

still wondering if I should do LT Headers next insead? ANy adivce for which mod I should do next?

Contact this guy for your gears, my 4.10s were under $140 shipped (I think that included shipping). Also I am running a Saleen SC, all the kits KB, Saleen, and Whipple are great. BTW car is dead because of a bad SCT tuner not because of the SC, and it happened to die the same day my 4.10s were installed, but if you are running taller rim/tires combolike 18' or larger the 4.10 won't kill you on the freeway.

Sactown,
Does that kit include gears, bearing set, oil additive and rear axl snthetic oil? I was quoted $354 for all that at the dealer and I assume I can find a little cheaper elsewhere. I will check into your guy.
Good to know about the s/c...where did you get your saleen s/c from and which kit and pulley you running? Did you install it yourself or have a shop do it?
I am running the stock 18s with the stoch BFGs but am thinking of going to a 20s with a low profile 35 or 40 sidewall. What tires/rims you running on? Thanks for your help...this build has been a long wait so I want to make sure I make the proper steps in the right order. Sorry for all the questions, I just figured its best to ask you all what you ended up with and how it is going for you.

For anyone else looking, I just found that on Brenspeed, I can get the 373 gears, master shim kit with bearings, and 3 qts royal Purple synthetic gear oil shipped for $263.97...now if I can get my dealer to knock down the price of install....hehe

You have an 06 w/ man? You car comes standard w/ 3.55. That being said, get 4.10s. I also have an 06 w/man and just had 4.10s installed this week. Acceleration is much quicker. Your RPMs will increase, but not by much. So far my gas mileage has not changed that much. I lost about 1-2 mpg on the hwy and around town/city my gas milegage has stayed the same or may have slightly increased. My car is my DD. Here is a good post/article about gears.
