the overall gear ratio in 5th gear is the same. if you want to see the difference across all gears, use this spreadsheet.

Technically, 3.90 in the auto is 4.10's in the manual.
3.73 in the auto is equal to 3.90 in the manual.

Probably depends on how much freeway driving you do. I think the main reason no one goes with 3.90's is because Ford doesn't make 'em.

I've read of guys who love their 4.10's, and then there are some who had 4.10's and switched back to 3.73. I went with the majority...besides, I do alot of freeway driving and don't want to be at 2900 rpm's when doing 80.

+1

I have a friend that does alot of interstate driving (to & from work daily) and installed 4.10's. He said they were fun in the beginning, but realized they were not practical. He switched back to 3.73's and is much happier now.

dang it...the more and more threads I see of these the more and more I feel like not installing the 4,10s and just getting the 3.73s.
)-:

it's a shame though because from what I have seen they launch hard as hell out of the hole!!~

Too bad this thread got moved to the deadzone where threads fall off after a day, now if the OP wants to ever see it again he will have to search for it since it drops off tomorrow. I dont know of many people that will search a forum to find something to reply to. Myabe it'll get fixed and we wont have to redo the search evrytime we want a thread with repsonses older than a whole day.

Ohya and on topic I love my 3.73's

lol I might just make it a habit on leaving to places early and taking my time on getting there.I figure,I just won't cruise past 60 and keep the tach moderate most of the time.I think it'll be worth it for the purpose of drag racing...
