4.10 gears questions
ok so i'm thinking about getting some 4.10s but my car is a DD.. i see traffic once in a while depending which day it is and what time i'm heading to class.. (its a manual btw) also i'm from new jersey so there will be snow soon.. should i wait til spring? how are they in the snow? is there a drastic change in mpg? are 3.73s a better bet? what company makes the best gears for the best price? thanks
I went from 3.55's to FRPP 4.10's but I'm not driving it in the winter.
Put your stock rims/tires back on and with the traction control and a full tank of gas you should be ok in the snow.

ya this is my only car and i gotta get to and from school each day.. my dad will probably leave me his truck to take to school if theres a lot of snow.. the campus doesn't close from a little bit of snow =/ but i've driven a mustang in snow before, my 5.0 notch.. and actually i think it had gears done too so i think i'll be fine.. thanks
how did you like the change from 3.55 to 4.10?

It's all in how you drive it man. Do the gears, and just drive carefully in the snow. Simple. I've had several mustangs with 4.10's and it's not THAT big of a difference if you drive it normally. Sure your RPM's are going to climb faster, but just shift quicker. I don't see any problems with you driving it in the snow with 4.10's AS LONG AS YOU'RE CAREFUL. Good luck!
I started with 3.55, then went to 4.10 and then recently back to 3.73. So I've got quite a bit of experience with each. I switched back to 3.73 due to road racing and autocross.
The 4.10s are the most fun...no question, they give you a lot of punch off idle and get you in the powerband super quick. The 3.73s are the most versitile - still farily good torque coming out of corners and you get higher speeds per gear before redlining (except 5th gear, where speed is limited by aerodynamics and power, not hitting redline). For example, with 4.10s 1st is very short and you have to shift right away, its also easy to light up the tires :-). With 3.73s 1st is more useful.
Like mentioned above - driving in snow is all about you, not the gears. Just put it in 3rd where you'd normally put it in 2nd, etc.
MPG difference - I haven't seen much difference, 0-1 mpg better maybe with the 3.73s.
Most folks will tell you that FRPP are the only gears to get.

I went from 3.55s to 4.10s. I am a MT driven it in snow. Use the stock Pirellis or dedicated snow tires(best option). Was OK driven with common sense. I saw a increase of approx 200-250 rpm difference. Gas mileage was maybe a .5 mpg difference. At the strip went from redline in 3rd to 5900 rpms in 4th. I loved the difference, contemplating switching to 4.30s (but no more winter driving for my Stang).
4.10s rock man, I'd def get them. Gives alot more punch. I'd say the revs go up roughly 400rpm. My mileage has actually increased but I started driving slower on the highway. Around town it's great, 4th works nicely and 5th is actually usuable. I use them w/ the stock rims and tires. There is a good amount of spin if you're agressive with the throttle but fine if you drive easy. BTW I'm from Jersey too and don't worry about them with snow.
