Default I make the right choice?

I just order 4.10 gear for my automatic . Then i start thinking that 3.73 is closer to a manuel with 4.10s will 4.10 shorten my tranmission life?

With 4.10 do i really have anything to worry about? Or should i call the place and tell them to send me 3.73 instead >> I prolly never going to go FI

i do plan on spraying sometime in the furture.

You will have more engine wear on the highway and lower gas mileage. 4.10 will increase your RPM by 20% over stock and 3.73 by about 12% over stock. It might be a little easier on your engine in the city with the numerically higher gears, though. That's not the case on the highway.

More RPM = more engine wear. It would probably take years and years to make a difference, so most people aren't worried about it.

If it's taken to the track a lot, then I'd get 4.10. Otherwise, for a street car 3.73 is plenty. If you really can't make up your mind, then I suppose there is always 3.90:1.

the minute amounts of gas being lost is more then worth the dramatic acceleration gained from the gears...

read that somewhere, forgot where but I believe it.

I have a friend that does alot of interstate driving each day. He has an automatic & installed 4.10's and said it was way to much, had some issues with the gear set-up and had to get new ones, went with 3.73's and says they are much better for him.

I will be doing 4.10's in my car, but mine is more of a weekend toy.

OK i never really take the car on the highway

and if it do at the max it is 30 miles @70MPH and that very rare

i do plan a road trip this summer but it going to be like 1 in a year so i think 4.10s will be fine

I wouldnt say its a bad choice, it might be a bit much on the highway though, you will be over 3K going 80 mph with the auto trans

Here is a link with some calculations and you can see that the 3.73 in the auto is about like the 4.10s for the manual

4.10's, 27" tall tires at 770 revs/mile, 6000 rpm

1st = 34
2nd = 57
3rd = 86
4th = 114
