Default Burning oil?

I recently changed my oil, and noticed that the oil was about 3/4 liter down on the dipstick.

It had approx 7,000km on the oil, and I use Mobil One 5w20 synthetic. My car has 34,000km, and I dont beat on it (occasionally bring it to red line when having fun) but no burn outs etc.

Under the car there is 0 leaks, and it looks clean as the day I bought it. (its parked during the winter)

I owned a 1998 s10, with a 4.3L v6.. I used mobil one 5w30, and 10w30, and it never burned a drop with 200,000km on it.

So my question:

Is it normal for the 2005+ 4.6L to burn oil?

*it is currently tuned (brenspeed 93, with C&L intake, pypes mid muff exhaust)*

I heard that the 4.6 engine looses oil in the engine. Frankly I have never checked mine because I get an oil change every 3 to 5 thousand miles.

I know the last time I changed my oil I topped it off until it was just barely shy of the full marker/top dot.

After about 1000 miles it was about 1/3 down from the top dot. I have no idea why. The engine doesn't obviously burn oil and there is no leaks that I can tell. I was told that sometimes these engines seem to "eat" pennzoil platinum the first time you put it in there. I'm keeping any eye on it and next time I change the oil hopefully it won't lose any.

It more than likely sucked it through the PCV system and burned it that way. The inside of my intake had a light coating of oil when I removed it.

I run my Amsoil 8,000 - 10,000 miles and I have not noticed any oil loss other than maybe a smidgen down from where I topped it off. I've done at least 4 oil changes so far (including the first at about 2500 miles). Be aware that temperature changes and the angle of the vehicle will have an affect on the dipstick reading.

Good idea. Probably very good chance this is exactly what happened. I've heard even na cars can benefit from a catch can.

It's worth noting as well that 6.0 quarts will put the mark right between the two dots for me. I tried topping off last time and it only took about 1/8th of a quart before I was up to the top dot. Once you're in the range it's just as the manual says. No reason to bother adding more IMO.

unhook your intake, lift up the flaps of the throttle body, take a rag and wipe.

If it comes out black then you might be burning some oil and running too rich which means you might have an O2 sensor going out.

At least that was the problem I found with mine. Are you losing any rpms at all or is it just low on oil?

O2 sensor going out? Wouldn't that generate a CEL?

not if its an intermittent problem. It is possible that it would show up and certainly should show up, however if it is going out and not officially out yet, it could still cause the car to run rich and burn oil.
