Default Butt dyno happy

I was comiong home from work yesterday and needed to fill up so I did (87 octane). then when I go thome I had apackage. I was happy to see I received my SCT and CAI from Brenspeed but sad that I had a brand new tank of 87 octane.

Anyway I got to work installing the CAI. I decided to put it on the butt dyno to see/hear any differences. I started it up and she sounded different for sure...almost like it was cam'ed. I liked it but knew something was not quite right. I took for a drive and the car was not really enjoying the new lungs.

I looked everything over and knew I installed correctly. I figured the computer was very confused and started to reprogram. This completed and I took for a drive again. WOW. What a difference. The car was tugging at my shirt to give it more gas because she wanted to run wild.

I am VERY happy with the new setup. The car has much more throttle response. I can't wait to get it on 91 octane.

I was very bewildered during the first 25 minutes of driving with the 93 tune. The car seemed very lurchy and unstable. It just didn't seem to be running right. Too much jump at one instant, then an almost complete loss of power the next. Whatever was going on, after a few minutes, the car and the tune (and the driver!) got acclimated to each other I guess is the best way to describe it. All smiles ever since.

Am I understanding you correctly, in that you drove around with the CAI on but without re-flashing to a custom tune using the SCT? If so, that's definitely the reason for the weird behavior; I'm surprised you didn't throw a code actually. Not good to run the stock tune with the CAI.

In any case, aren't these cars great once re-tuned?? It's a totally different (better) beast! Enjoy :-)

Yes you understood correctly. I wanted to see differences with each stage of install so I would better understand the performance difference for each piece. Lesson Learned and I will from now on heed your advice there.

...and yes...The tune is fantastic. Now if I can get my foot out of it. I dropped several mpgs...but it sure is fun.

What scares me now is that I'll take CharlieBrown's advice and use super unleaded once and never go back. This can get expensive.

Wow. I did this this morning and I must agree. This thing was a rocket. Very nice. I can't imagine what a supercharger will do to it. That is a later planned upgrade as well.

Oh yes. The tune will stay on 93 for sure. I wasn't going to do it originally (gas prices), but I don't care if gas hits $4 again. this will stay on 93.

Glad you like it, but just a word of advice, never run a mod that requires a tune without the tune installed. You can easily run lean and cause major damage.

FYI, there is a bigger difference between the 87 custom and 87 stock tunes than there is between the 93 custom and 87 custom tunes so don't be too depressed when you notice only marginal difference with your 91 or 93 tune.
