Engine problem / dealership issue :-\
I posted a thread about 6 months ago on here...referring to a second gear synchro that I had that was out and whether or not it would be covered under my warranty.....I have an extended 6 yr/80k miles warranty powertrain plus.....I always change my oil every 4-5k miles and put in the full synthetic mobil 1 5w-20 and the mobil 1 oil filter...it's been about 4-5k miles since my last oil change which was in probably late january..I went to jiffy lube to have my car inspected in late feb....then i took it into pep boys to have my front end realigned....well I finally took my car into THE FORD DEALERSHIP to get the second gear synchro fixed about 3 weeks ago...I told them i thought the second gear synchro was bad, and my check engine light has been on(which has been on because of a catalytic converter).....I told him to check it out...he had to call Quality Warranty from Nissan (where i got the car)....they dropped the transmission...found out a part they needed was on back order....finally got it in a few days later.....put the transmission back together....then the services guy Joe called me back and said they put the transmission back together but its still not shifting properly....tore the transmission down again....they were supposed to replace some sort of cone....so they put the transmission back together...all this was in a 2 week span (warranty covered it thank goodness)....so I got the car back on a friday the 8th.....it was shifting better....but it was bucking alot more under normal driving conditions.....I tried not to drive it that much and called Joe and told him I was going to bring it in bc "it's bucking and was not doing that before I brought it in"....so I brought it back in the thursday....Joe calls me on friday while i'm at work and says it's fine... Joe (services guy) drove my car, Mike (the mechanic who "fixed" it) drove it, and some other guy drove it.....everyone said it was normal....I pleaded to him that something was not right...and we agreed that I would bring it in on monday to have him look at it again....well here's the best part....I pick up my car after work.....I don't get 15 miles and the check engine light (which they flashed off) starts flashing as I'm on the interstate (going about 70 and driving normal) I slow down to 50 and it turns off about 15 seconds later....so i slowly get back up to the speed of traffic and the engine locks up and everything shuts down....I coasted to a stop.....had the engine towed back to the dealership....on monday joe calls me and says that it's 4.5 QUARTS LOW IN OIL!!!!!!! wtf!?!? now the warranty dept says they are not sure if they will cover the engine....they have to see my history of oil changes.....which i change myself and don't have receipts for....but im positive it was 4-5k miles ago and about late january......what do you think guys....I've been sooo damn stressed lately :-\
First of all - have them put everything IN WRITING!!!!
Sounds like they just dont want to deal with the problems under warranty and trying to get out by saying you did something wrong yourself. I think you should threaten to sue them ( which in reality will be pretty hard, but I done that twice ). The real question is was the oil level really low? ( I dont think so ) or thats something they come up with. In any case they should try to find out the cause of the low level and put everything IN WRITING. If it was initially low and had something to do with the oil change you did how come they did not notice that during their repairs?
PS: Did your low oil pressure chime and text come on while you drove?

both the oil pressure gauge and the temperature have always shown directly in the middle....I especially looked at that when the light came back on and it was acting funny when i picked it back up the second time....and I find it hard to believe that if my oil was that low why jiffy lube a couple months ago didnt notice andything strange when they did the state inspection.....pep boys a month ago didn't notice the oil being low and they pointed out that my water pump was dripping and recommended that i get it changed soon.....and the dealership had it for 2 weeks....and I brought it back to them 4 days later telling them about the bucking sensation while driving it (that I didnt feel before I took the car in)
I've heard from someone.....that if the oil was down to just 1.5 quarts then the engine would not be able to circulate enough oil...and the low oil pressure light would have came on (which did not happen)
threaten them with a lawer comment. the dealership recently effed up my gear install and refused to fix it, until i got the service manager on the phone and told him he would be hearing from my lawer. after that, and hearing my side of the story, he agreed to get me a new set of gears (damaged badly from his tech's install) and pay the install cost at another service center.
well ....heard back from the inspector....turns out one of the bearings failed so the engine is going to be covered under warranty....they are going to be putting in an engine that has 5k miles on it.....and a weeks worth of car rental .....I'm now driving around a 2010 mustang V6.....I dont know if you guys knew this....but there is NO GAS CAN! you just push in the door and pop it open...it's pressurized....I like the front end/hood.....not a big fan of the back end though
You going to let them put in a used engine? Where did this engine come from? They giving you a warranty on this used engine? If it was me, I would be pushing for a New engine. They are suppose to use New parts when doing warranty work.
Could the engine light have been turned on due to low oil pressure? If so, they should have caught that.
Sounds like a call to the B.A.R. is in order. Best of luck.
In my opinion- never buy a used car that is from a different car manufacturer- IE a Mustang from a Nissan dealer.
