Default engine proplem help

I have a 1996 Gt convert with 04 4.6. Its been a good swap with out any proplems until now. I was running at about 60 mpn when I lost power. After checking electrical plugs and fuses after which the car started. Sounded good and all of a sudden it sounded like it was loading up and quit. After sitting for about 10 min it started and by keeping the rpm up it ran about a couple of minutes and it loaded up. This went on for twenty miles until I was able to get to phone. I used a quarter tank of gas at this time. Could some one give a idea as to where to start looking. Ford does not want to touch it because of the engine swap as with most places. Thank you for time.

I would check the fuel filter/fuel pump as well as the fuse associated with the fuel system.

Default code

I don't have a way to check code. One shop wants $150.00 /$75.00 if they do repairs. Had no check engine light. My exhausts are black. I do have a small exhaust leak. When I turn the key on I can hear the pump come up and stall. Chilton tells me nothing. Where to look. I hate to pay to find out all it is is O2 or a air flow sensor. Where to look
