Default tapping from the a/c

Hey everyone,

I had a question. Hopefully someone knows what's going on. I have a 2010 GT and one day I turned the A/C on and I heard a tap, tap, tap, tap, tap and then it stopped. It now makes that sound almost every time I turn the A/C on. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this? I would take it to the dealership but I have a bad experience with the local dealership here and I pretty much refuse to go there. Thanks for any replies.

Since you're under warranty, I'd take to the dealer (or one other than your local). No sense trying to play Mr-fix-it when it's their job. I don't know too many people that LIKE their dealership.

IMO and without more info, it sounds like it could be the compressor cycling on and off.

Its not the compressor cycling on and off. This is a loud tap that happens when the A/C is turned on. It almost sounds like someone is tapping the dashboard with a hammer. Also another problem is that I have a powertrain warranty. I'm not entirely sure that covers any A/C problems.

You should have full inclusive warranty that´s still valid in addition to that. 3yrs/36k miles I believe. So long as neither are above that, they are bound to fix any true problems, this included. And you can always bring it in to another Ford dealer for service.

I guess I'll have to find another dealership then. Hopefully I do have that warranty because I would rather fix it myself for a lot cheaper. Thanks for the help guys.

It's a 2010. Of COURSE you're under warranty. I have a 2007 and my 36k mile/3 year warranty only recently expired but my powertrain warranty is still in effect.

I'm actually dealing with the same thing. Mine started doing it the other day, and I drove by the dealer for them to check it out. As soon as He heard it he knew what it was: blendor actuator for the AC/Heat. He said it was going out. It is under warranty so no cost to fix it, but apparently the dash has to come off to do it Won't have a chance to take it in til next week or so. I haven't had the best experiences with dealers so I am really nervous about that part.

Hotrodd, if you decide to let your dealership go through with the fix could you update me if they actually fixed the problem? If so then I'll take mine in and do the procedure. I've got video of the sound. I'm about to put the video on youtube.

EDIT: Here is the link to the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mCDtzK9s7c

that's crazy, the bumper to bumper is 3yr/36k, PT warranty is 6y60k on 10 cars. unless oyu are over the 36k mark you are under warranty.
