Default True trac diff ????

My spider gears are toasted and was thinking about a swapping out a new carrier. I have seen the true trac setup mentioned a few times.

What is the difference between the true trac and the stock unit? I need something that will hold up to 500hp range.

Thanks
pt

Standard differential uses clutches to transmit power to the wheels the Truetrac diff. uses helical gear sets to transmit power to the wheel with most traction.

The True-Trac and Torsen T-2 are both clutch-less and should offer better performance as a LSD. No friction modifier is needed, and the recommended gear oil may be different than what Ford recommends. I'd check with the LSD manufacturer to see what type of gear oil they recommend in terms of weight and synthetic vs. non-synthetic.

Im lookin into gettin one of these myself. the only thing i wonder is how much can i depend on the truetrac always lighting up both tires? i dont want to deal with something that gets confused, id like to know that if im stopped and nail it, both tires are gonna be pushing me! is that the case with the truetrac or should i go with a locker?

The Detroit Locker differential is a good helical gear LSD for the drag strip duty. It is currently being installed in my Mustang. It thought it would be wise to change over to Moser axles and a low profile girdle cover with torque caps which will give the diff. more strength when under load.
I also went with Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90 because of proprietary synthetic additives that protect the diff. per my race mechanics reccomendation.
This should be a bullet proof set up for our needs.
I get the car back next week and can tell you how well both tires hook up.

Check out the wavetrac. I'm pinching pennies for it.
