Default Oil Catch Can ?

It's been a while but I'm back again.
So my question is about Oil Catch Cans. Are they really worth doing? I do understand the blow back but my question is how do they effect the engine? Meaning by adding an extra piece into the oil system does it have any effect. Also how often do you empty it or do they have filters in them. The idea seems great but I would like to hear from anyone who might have one. Thanks for any reply's.

They are a good idea for any engine, but especially engines running forced induction. They keep your intake from getting coated in oil. It also keeps that oil from entering your cylinders. Usually they don't have a filter. I empty mine once a month and just toss the oil in my used oil barrel.

You wont really notice a performance effect on the motor.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not forced induction yet but plan on it down the road. Basically sounds like it's a good idea and good for the engine too. Looks pretty easy to install and I noticed you can put it on either side. I'm guessing depending on your after toy add ons..:-)

They're a good idea for any engine. I think the best one is the JLT with the factory type hoses already attached. Better that the heater hose cans being sold. $119 with free shipping. Wish I had seen these before I bought my UDP can.

It's my understanding that the catch can should go on the driver side on the 4.6L 3v. I've seen companies that sell ones that are titled as either driver or passenger, but it was explained to me once that the driver side is air out and passenger side is air in (meaning that oil wont come out the passenger side). This may be incorrect but I know from checking the hoses on my car that the driver side hose has oil residue in it and the passenger side does not.

Yes, it is worth doing. I empty it 2 times between oil changes. It's a good idea to install one also because the oil sucked into the engine lowers the octane rating of the gas which could lead to detonation.

JLT makes a nice one. Funny thing with my car I got more oil in it when I wasnt FI. I have mine on the drivers side but do plan to make a custom one for the passenger side since I added the blower.

I don't get black soot on the exhaust tips anymore since I installed the catch can.
