Cams Question.....

Cams Question.....
I know there have been a lot of discussions on here about cams but I'm currently debating between the FRPP Hot Rod cams and the Brenspeed Detroit Rocker cams. I was at the track last night and saw a car with DRs with a set of M/T street radials running 13.80 at 103! How lame is that?! My car with stock cams runs 13.20-30s. Also when I heard it idling, I couldn't heard it loping at all! So does this guy just have tuned wrong or what? Also, what is some people's experience with both the FRPP Hot Rod and Brendspeed DRs? Just curious

Doubtful there are many people whom have had both brands in their car. You really have to ask yourself what do you expect from these cams? Lopey tone? More power? I picked up about 3 mph after my detroit rocker install. ET was improved by about .15
If I was to do it again. I would forego cams and go straight to FI. A supercharger changes everything. Huge massive difference.
If your set on cams, either one will give you about the same results. Lopey idle and some small power increase on the top end. Your low end will suffer some. My best ET with cams, MT ET streets, cai, LTs....was 13.13 at 107. The DA at my track is usually 1200 to 2000 feet. Lots of humidity here.

An upgraded cam almost begs for port and polished heads to take full advantage of them.
A Set of 3V port polished heads, FRPP cams, FRPP intake and upgraded throttle body should easily put you at 400 flywheel properly dynoed.

appreciate the feedback. I didn't think anyone had run both sets but was just curious if anyone had any dealings with both. I would love the lopey idle of course but my concern was that this one particular car was running the DR cams and his ETs were so bad! My biggest concern with the DR cams is the fact that Brenspeed can't/won't give any specs on this cam. I know they claim 30whp gain but I was just curious what gains anyone had actually seen. I was also curious about any power gains anyone had seen with the FRPP cams also. Thanks again for the feedback guys.

Just for reference.
I gained 40 or 44 (cant remember which one) from Hot Rod Cams and BBK Long Tubes on the 06GT.
I already had CAI and a tune. They re tuned it after the install.
For big track gains you are gonna need some $$ as stated.
For the everyday driver and occasional street run or whatever the cams and long tubes will give you a pretty good noticeable diff in power.
You need the long tubes to go with them if you are looking to get them for gains.

If you like nice lopey cams with a shaking car at stop lights, then the FFRP HotRods are for you..!! They are certainly noticeable and they do turn heads. FYI, I picked up about 26 rwhp just with these cams when installed before going FI about 2 1/2 years ago.
Have fun Man !!!

That works for me. I'm going FI somewhere down the road but for the moment I was trying to decide on the cams. I've got a tune with CAI and long tubes so I'll see that gain I was expected I think. Thanks for the info, that was really helpful
